Overview

Albert is NYU's internal website for students. Students use it to register for classes, pay tuition, check grades, and more. Our goal is to make it easier for NYU students to choose courses and view course schedules easily.

Problem

How might we check if there is a time conflict in the selected course?

Solution

Added the status of already selected courses on the timetable for intuitive navigation.

Define Problem

User story

It is difficult for students to check the status of selected courses.

Competitive Study

I compared indirect competitors to understand how they build timetable.

Key insights

After organizing and summarizing all the findings we collected, here are the top 3 key insights we learned.

Low fi frame

Iteration

Each time we got user feedback, we did iterations and test again. Users found the third version of our design much more effective than the first version.

Final design

Timetable

Provide the timetable of the selected courses to help students choose courses better and check whether there are courses with time conflicts.

First, add drop-down boxes containing courses in the timetable, which are enrolled, waitlist, and shopping cart. You can view all of them, or you can view one state alone. The second is to add a time selector to view daily or weekly courses.

Reflection

  • Prioritizing User Experience : Optimize the website for essential academic tasks like course registration and fee payment to enhance user satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Visualizing Information: Adding selected course statuses to the timetable improves user navigation and understanding.

What did I learn from this project?

What are the most challenging parts of this project?

  • Handling Complexity: Designing the website to accommodate diverse course combinations and scheduling needs.

  • Continuous Improvement: Gathering user feedback and making ongoing improvements to meet evolving user needs and boost satisfaction.
